The bar area dates from around1680, we are told – not sure if anyone really knows. Certainly, the beams, the Inglenook fireplace with its log-burning stove, the flagstone floors and cosy little snug area all add to a certain "WOW" factor that is certainly unique to the Sun Inn. Many a passer-by has spent a gloriously happy evening here, chatting and drinking with locals and other fellow travellers – a dying pastime in this age of TV and the social networks of cyberspace – but here, in this bar, there is no TV, no juke-box, no one arm bandit and no signal – bliss! Although we do play a selection of folk, blues and soft rock as background music. In addition, we do invite musicians to come along and play live music (see music nights page).
Red wine is becoming an increasingly popular choice of drink amongst locals and visitors to the Sun Inn, and we are told we have the best selection of red wines in the area. Indeed, we take a pride in selecting wines we think people will enjoy. We also sell lagers and beers as well as a good selection of soft drinks, coffee and teas (including herbal teas). We have recently begun stocking "Baltika" by popular demand - this is a premium lager brewed in Russia and we must admit, it is rather pleasant.
